Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Shieldman (“Shieldman”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, shares, and protects your information when you use our website and membership Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: name, email address, password, chosen plan, and household member details (for Family plans).
- Billing information: billing address and payment details. Card and bank numbers are collected and processed by our third-party payment processor; we do not store full payment card numbers on our own systems.
- Case information: the details you share when you open a case – order confirmations, receipts, screenshots, seller and marketplace communications, tracking information, correspondence, and any documents or evidence you provide.
- Support communications: messages, emails, and notes exchanged with our team.
- Technical and usage data: IP address, device and browser type, pages visited, and similar analytics data collected automatically, including via cookies.
2. Why We Collect It
- To provide the Service: assess and handle your cases, prepare demand letters, guide disputes with sellers and marketplaces, and escalate matters where appropriate.
- To manage your account, process subscription billing, and prevent fraud.
- To communicate with you about your cases, your account, and Service updates.
- To improve and secure the Service and to comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Handle Case Data
Case data can be sensitive, and we treat it accordingly. We use it to work your case, and we limit internal access to team members who need it to help you. We do not sell your personal information or case data. We do not use your case data for unrelated advertising.
4. Sharing Your Information
We share information only as needed to run the Service and as described here:
- Partner attorneys: where a matter warrants legal escalation, we may share relevant case information with a partner attorney so they can assess or handle the matter. Partner attorneys act as independent parties under their own engagement and privacy terms.
- Payment processors: to process subscription payments and prevent fraud.
- Counterparties in your dispute: to advocate for you, we may transmit relevant details to the seller, marketplace, bank, or card network involved in your case – with the goal of resolving it.
- Service providers: vendors that host our systems, provide email, analytics, or customer-support tooling, under confidentiality obligations.
- Legal and safety: where required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and the integrity of the Service.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.
5. Cookies and Analytics
We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember preferences, secure the Service, and understand usage. You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect functionality. Where required, we request consent for non-essential cookies.
6. Data Retention
We retain account and case information for as long as your membership is active and thereafter for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described here, resolve disputes, maintain records of the advocacy we performed, and comply with legal, tax, and regulatory obligations. When data is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it in line with our retention schedule – generally for as long as your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterward to meet our legal, accounting, and dispute-resolution obligations.
7. Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent. To exercise these rights, contact us at hello@shieldman.co. We will respond as required by applicable law. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The Service is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. International Transfers
Your information may be processed in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version with a new effective date and, for material changes, provide additional notice.
